Clase de español, Señora Díaz-Dabén
Cycle 3
Enero-Febrero del 2012
5th grade
¿Cómo estás? ¿Cómo te llamas?
A new cycle
begins for fifth grade. Students will work on greetings,
introductions and leave takings. They will practice how to
say “hello” and introduce themselves to others. In pairs
they will role-play dialogues and will present them to the
class. Also, the students will talk about famous people.
They will ask for names, ages, and origin. The students will
have the opportunity to be engaged in listening, reading,
and writing activities which will allow them to use Spanish
in common conversations. They will also sing songs about
the countries
where Spanish is spoken and will
learn some traditional games too.
Review
6th, 7th and 8th
grades
As the cycle
begins, students will spend a few days reviewing the
material learned in the previous school year. First, it
will be time to talk about the weather. Using flashcards
and Total Physical Response (TPR), students will describe
weather conditions in the area and based to the different
seasons and months of the year.
Secondly, it is
time for actions. Using different flashcards and TPR,
students will identify and act out action verbs in Spanish.
They will review the structures used to talk about what
things they and others like or dislike doing. Classes will
reinforce the use of the pronouns and the conjugation of the
verb “gustar” ( to like).
Also, students
will classify actions and talk about what their activities
may be according to seasons, weather conditions so that they
can incorporate into the learning experience the material
and structures previously learned in the class.
The review will
be done using the following class activities: role-plays,
interviews, charades, memory, and Pictionary.
6th and 7th grades
¿Cómo eres?
During the
cycle, students in 6th and 7th grades
will work with adjectives. They will describe
themselves, their families, and friends. Students will learn
the correct way to use adjectives in Spanish when describing
a boy or a girl and
also review
Spanish subject pronouns and the correct conjugation of the
verb to be (ser).
Moreover,
students will compare and contrast people based on
personality traits using a Venn diagram. Also, they will
describe themselves by writing “un poema de diamante” (a
diamond poem) which they will later recite to the class.
Classes will
reinforce the use of the new structures and vocabulary
through activities and games such as information gap,
listening and reading comprehension exercises, role-plays,
interviews, and Pictionary.
8th grade
¿Qué haces en tu tiempo libre?
Students will conjugate verbs
in the present tense! Students will learn the rules to
conjugate the first group of verbs in Spanish, those ending
in –AR. They will first recognize the singular and plural
subject pronouns and the correct ending (suffix) of the
conjugation that goes with each pronoun. Students will
substitute exercises so that they can replace the subject
with a pronoun. In order to fully understand how
conjugation takes place, students will be engaged in several
writing exercises in which they have to recognize the
subject, choose a verb, and change it accordingly (drop the
–ar and add the suffix).
Also, students will
participate in exercises (orally) in which they will talk
about what they and others do during their free time. They
will have plenty of opportunities to practice the
conjugation through activities and games such as information
gap, listening and reading comprehension exercises,
role-plays, and interviews.
